How it works
A site that asks you to trust its numbers should say where they came from. So: one person, his own opinions, research done with an AI pointed at trying to break them, and a list at the end of every piece of what didn’t hold up.
Who
I write and release my own music. It is not a career and I would never claim it is, but it is enough that I have paid the distributor, argued about splits, dealt with the declined card, and done the metadata at two in the morning. That is the only qualification behind any of this, and it is the reason the Rap Ledger side exists at all.
There is no team. If something on this site is wrong, it is my fault.
Cold Takes
Cold Takes is the personal half of the site. These are things I actually think about music, usually something I have been chewing on for a while, and they are here because I enjoy the argument rather than because there is a business reason for them.
Every one goes the same way:
- I have the take. Unprompted and usually unpolished, from listening to something and reacting to it. Nobody suggests these to me and no tool generates them.
- An AI researches it, specifically to try to prove me wrong. Not to find support for what I already think. The instruction is to look for evidence either way and to report anything that contradicts me, because an opinion that survives a real attempt to break it is worth publishing and one that has only been flattered is not.
- It gets drafted in my voice, from my own words. The takes start as me talking, so the drafting works from that rather than from an outline. When the voice drifts away from mine, I say so and it gets rewritten.
- I review it and correct it before it goes anywhere. This is a real step and it has changed pieces. One draft described me as someone who would never call himself an artist, which is not my position and I said so, so the opening was rewritten. Nothing publishes that I have not read.
- Whatever didn't survive gets published alongside whatever did. Every piece ends with the receipts block, and anything I believed going in that turned out to be unsupported is listed there under my name, not quietly deleted.
Put plainly. The opinions are mine and are not generated. The research is done with an AI, at my direction, and its job is to attack the opinion rather than decorate it. The drafting is assisted. The review, the corrections and the decision to publish are mine, and I am responsible for every claim here whether I typed the sentence or not.
Rap Ledger
The money side isn’t opinion and isn’t written the same way. Every figure is checked against the company's own pricing page rather than a comparison site, then quoted, linked and dated. Where a company does not publish a number, the page says so and leaves it flagged rather than filling the gap with a guess.
That rule came out of getting it wrong. An early version of the distribution article carried four figures taken from comparison articles, and all four were wrong when checked against the source. Both of the break-even numbers in that piece were calculated from one of them and moved when it was corrected. The corrections are on the page and in the receipts index, with the date.
Comparison sites are not sources. Go to the company's own page, quote it, link it, date it. The rule that came out of being wrong four times in one table
The limits
- It does not decide what to write about.
- It does not supply the opinions. Those are mine and they arrive before any research starts.
- It does not publish anything. Nothing reaches this site without me reading it first.
- It does not get to quietly drop an inconvenient finding. If the evidence went against me, that goes in the receipts under my name.
Saying so costs nothing. A site that runs a public corrections index while being cagey about its own process would deserve none of the trust it asks for.
The tools
Everything under Rap Ledger and the listener tools runs entirely in your browser. Nothing you type is uploaded, there is no account, no login and no database. Close the tab and it is gone. That is a deliberate constraint rather than a limitation, because the split sheet asks you for the names and shares of everyone in your session and that information has no business leaving your machine.
There is no tracking beyond Cloudflare's own aggregate page counts, no advertising, and nothing on this site is sponsored.
If something’s wrong
Tell @coolturkeyCT. It gets corrected on the page, dated, and added to the index under "didn't survive checking", which currently has five entries in it and will have more. That is the system working rather than failing.
